Privacy Policy

1. Who we are

The Daily Faith is a free daily Christian devotional email, published in the United States. In this policy, "The Daily Faith," "we," "us," and "our" all mean the publisher of The Daily Faith.

We are the party responsible for your personal information. Under United States state privacy laws we act as the "business" that controls your information. If you are in Canada, we also handle your information in line with applicable Canadian privacy law.

2. What we collect, and why

We try to collect as little as possible. The Daily Faith is a one-way email. You read it, and we send it. We do not ask you to create an account, and we do not build a profile to follow you around the web.

When you subscribe, we collect:

• Your email address. This is how we deliver the daily devotional and your welcome gift. It is the one piece of information the service cannot work without.
• A record of your consent. Because anti-spam law (including Canada's CASL for any subscribers in Canada) puts the burden on the sender to show that you asked to hear from us, we keep a record of your consent. At the moment you sign up we record the date and time, your IP address, your browser's user agent, the exact wording of the consent text shown to you on the form, and the page address (source URL) where you subscribed. We keep this together as your proof of consent.
• How you found us (for example, which landing page), so we understand where subscribers come from.

We also keep basic sending information, such as whether an email was delivered, opened, or clicked, and whether you unsubscribed or marked a message as spam. We use this only to keep our list healthy, protect our delivery reputation, and stop emailing people who do not want to hear from us.

We do not knowingly collect your phone number at launch, because The Daily Faith is email only for now. If we ever add text messages, that will be a separate, clearly described opt-in.

3. A note on AI-assisted content

We believe in being honest about how the devotional is made. Each daily reading is written with the help of AI and then checked against our standards before it is sent. This is about the content we create, not about your personal information. We do not feed your personal details into these tools to generate the devotional. The reading you receive is the same reading everyone receives that morning.

4. Consent and lawful basis

We send you email because you asked us to. When you subscribe, you give us your clear, express consent on the signup form. That consent is the basis on which we contact you, and it is why we keep the consent record described above.

You can withdraw your consent at any time. Every email we send includes a one-click way to unsubscribe, and you can also reach us using the contact details below. When you withdraw consent, we stop sending you the devotional.

5. We never sell your information

We do not sell your personal information. We never have, and we have no plans to. We also do not "share" it for cross-context behavioral advertising, and we do not rent or trade your email address. Your trust is the whole product. We will not spend it.

6. Service providers we use

To run the service we rely on a small number of trusted companies that process information on our behalf, under contract and only on our instructions. We name the categories here rather than any secret keys or credentials:

• Email delivery. A managed email service provider that sends the daily devotional on our behalf.
• Email verification. A service that checks, at the moment you sign up, that an email address is real and able to receive mail. This protects both you and our delivery reputation.
• Hosting and content delivery. An infrastructure provider that serves our website and pages quickly and securely around the world.
• Database and application hosting. A managed database service where your subscription record and consent record are stored.

These providers may only use your information to provide their service to us. They are not permitted to use it for their own purposes.

7. How long we keep your information

We keep your email address and subscription details for as long as you are subscribed. If you unsubscribe, we keep enough information on a suppression list to make sure we do not accidentally email you again.

We keep your consent record as proof that you asked to hear from us. Because anti-spam law puts the burden of proving consent on the sender, we retain this record even after you unsubscribe, for as long as it may be needed to defend the lawfulness of having contacted you. The exact retention period is being confirmed with counsel, and at a minimum we keep it for as long as you are subscribed and for a reasonable period afterward as anti-spam law requires.

If you ask us to delete your information, we will honor that request to the extent the law allows, while keeping the minimum consent and suppression records the law lets us retain.

8. How we protect your information

We protect your information with encryption in transit and at rest, access controls that limit who can see it, and a least-privilege approach to keys and credentials. No method of storage or transmission is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable, current measures to keep your information safe and to keep our consent records intact.

9. Where your information is processed

We are based in the United States, and most of our subscribers are in the United States. Your information may be stored and processed in the United States, Canada, or other countries where our service providers operate. Wherever it is processed, it remains protected by this policy and by our agreements with those providers. By subscribing, you understand that your information may cross these borders.

10. Your privacy rights

You have real rights over your information, and we want them to be easy to use.

If you are in Canada (PIPEDA)

• Access. You can ask what personal information we hold about you.
• Correction. You can ask us to correct information that is wrong or out of date.
• Withdraw consent. You can withdraw your consent and unsubscribe at any time.

If you are in the United States (including CCPA and CPRA in California)

• Right to know. You can ask what personal information we have collected about you and how we use it.
• Right to delete. You can ask us to delete the personal information we hold about you, subject to legal exceptions.
• Right to opt out of sale or sharing. We do not sell or share your personal information, so there is nothing to opt out of, but you have the right all the same.
• Right to non-discrimination. We will never treat you differently for exercising any of these rights.

To use any of these rights, contact us at privacy@thedailyfaith.org. We will respond within the time the law requires. We may need to confirm your identity, usually by confirming control of the email address on the subscription, before we act.

11. How to unsubscribe

Leaving is always one click. Every email includes a clear, one-click unsubscribe link, and most inboxes also show a one-click unsubscribe button at the top of the message. When you unsubscribe, we stop sending the devotional and add you to our suppression list so we do not email you again. No hard feelings, and no hoops.

12. Cookies and analytics

We keep our website light. We use only what we need to make the site work, to keep our signup form safe from bots and abuse, and to understand in aggregate how the site is used.

For that last part we use Google Analytics 4. It sets a cookie and sends Google basic, aggregated information about your visit, such as the pages you view, your general region, and the type of device and browser you use. We have configured it to respect your privacy: advertising personalization is turned off, and we do not use it to build advertising profiles or to follow you around the web. We do not run a Meta pixel or any advertising tracker on the site.

You can opt out at any time. Most browsers let you block or delete cookies, Google offers a browser add-on that turns off Google Analytics, and we honor the Global Privacy Control signal if your browser sends one. We never sell your personal information. We will not add an advertising pixel without first updating this policy and giving you a clear way to opt out.

13. Children

The Daily Faith is meant for adults and is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13, and we do not knowingly market to anyone under 16. If you believe a child has subscribed, please contact us and we will remove the information.

15. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the service grows or as the law changes. When we make a meaningful change, we will update the effective date at the top of this page, and for significant changes we will let subscribers know by email. The version you are reading is governed by the laws of the State of Delaware and the applicable laws of the United States.
